Awards

Spiegel-Wycis Award
The Spiegel-Wycis Award is presented at each quadrennial meeting of the WSSFN to one or two senior neurosurgeons who throughout their career have contributed to the advancement of the field of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery.

The recipients of the 2005 awards are Dr. Patrick Kelley of the USA, and Dr. Alim-Louis Benabid of France.

WSSFN Young Investigator Award
The WSSFN young investigator award is given to two neurosurgeons under the age 45 for the best presentations, poster or oral, at the quadrennial WSSFN meeting. The value of the prize is $1000 US.

The winners of the 2005 awards are:

  1. Dr. Yasin Temel of the Netherlands for his paper on “Behavioral effects of bilateral subthalamic stimulation in advanced Parkinson disease: A systematic review
  2. Dr. E. Talamoni Fonoff of Brasil for his paper on “Antinociceptive effect induced by sensorimotor cortex stimulation in normal rats.
